Spectating 101
Are you the cheer squad? Well, during the race for you is just as important as the runner itself!
You hype them up.
They get eager to see you there.
You’re constantly moving around to make sure you don’t miss them at the location you planned to be at.
Fueling up.
As a spectator, it is super important you are fueling.
Coffee, donuts, water. You need to stay alert so you don’t miss your runner pass by!
Checking pace.
Get to your location and check in.
Where is your athlete? Are they are target?
Enjoying the scenery.
Don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers and look at the views along the way.
There is a lot of waiting depending on the length of the course, so enjoy it!
Running through all of the terrain.
Be prepared to run up hills, across sand and grass, and potentially roots from trees. No terrain is out of the question.
Being the loudest fans.
Cheer for your runner the loudest, but don’t forget about the others crushing their goals too!
Cheering at the end.
A non-negotiable celebration with food, a beverage of choice, and a minimal high five.
Being a spectator is so rewarding and fun. You get to see your runner for 2 seconds while walking 15+ miles to get to them (race distance dependent). You get to see them crush their goals while you crush donuts and coffee. You get to see them running super fast while you trudge through all different types of terrain questioning why you have a loved one who does this. You get to see them fight the elements while you fight for your life protecting yourself.
Being a spectator is so fun because watching them cross that finish line means you’re done fighting the stress of ‘will we see them or did we miss them?’
