Run Stressors
Do you switch up your movement patterns?
Not just thinking lifts or mobility…
Stressors in your run.
Terrain variability.
This is so good for runners to build strength and stability.
And it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Pick a route that you like to run.
Can you run on a sidewalk?
Can you also run on pavement?
What about grass?
Look at that — 3 stressors in one run!
When we switch up the terrain we are running on, we are training our body to work different muscles (subtly but it’s happening).
Such a gentle shift of pavement to sidewalk works the load on our muscles differently since they are different materials.
Pavement to grass? Now we’re talking!
You’re much more stable on pavement than grass because pavement is more compact. When running on grass you have to use tiny stabilizing muscles to help you stay up and propel forward.
It’s not bad, it’s just facts.
It’s work, but it’s helping you level up.
Let yourself wobble around and tap in a little differently.
Not only is it making your physical body work more, it’s causing the brain to focus in a different way.
All things that help our whole self become stronger.
It may seem hard at first to find at least 2 different stressors per run, but we bet you can do it. Get creative and challenge yourself.
Reflect after you do it.
What did it feel like when I ran on the pavement then transitioned to grass?
Grass to dirt?
Dirt to sand?
Once you write it down and see what it did, you’ll surprise yourself.
Have fun exploring new terrain and don’t be afraid to level up your runs in this fashion. It’s fun and helps our runs feel fresh.
Stride by stride becoming the best you.
